Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is trending toward returning for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants, although his availability remains uncertain because of a hamstring injury.
The 31-year-old is expected to be a true game-time decision, ESPN's John Keim reported Saturday. Keim added that there is a “slight lean” toward McLaurin playing, but he stressed that it was “just slight.”
McLaurin missed Washington's Week 4 game versus the Indianapolis Colts after being ruled out Sunday morning. He initially appeared on the injury report before that contest and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday this week. However, he participated on a limited basis Friday before being listed as questionable for the Week 5 matchup.
The final decision is expected to depend on how McLaurin feels during pregame warmups Sunday.
McLaurin's potential return would be particularly valuable because fellow starting wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury this week. Still, the Commanders are not expected to rush McLaurin back before he is ready.
Article Continues BelowWashington has already ruled eight players out for the game against the Giants. The team must also consider the expected weather conditions, with Hurricane Isaias forecast to bring rain throughout the game. Concerns about the playing surface at Northwest Stadium could further influence the decision regarding McLaurin's availability.
The Commanders enter Week 5 with a 1-3 record and need wins to improve their position. Having McLaurin available alongside quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is back in action, would help that cause.
