The Washington Commanders finally showed some glimmers of hope in Week 3. Washington got a massive win against Seattle despite not having QB Jayden Daniels because of injury. One Commanders rookie played a big part in that thrilling victory early in his NFL career.
Commanders linebacker Sonny Styles shared some honest feedback on where he is just games into his NFL career. The rest of the league should be terrified based on his answer.
“I think I saw a normal but I think there are still more plays to be made,” Styles said after the game, per JP Finlay. “I don't think I made it where I wanna be. So I guess it's getting better each and every week. I think you've got to be real with yourself, be hard on yourself. But at the same time, third week playing in the NFL, you've got to give yourself grace too. But you know I'm always looking to get better.”
Styles wasted little time before establishing himself as an incredible linebacker early in his NFL career. He finished Sunday's win with five total tackles, two passes defensed, an interception, and a forced fumble.
The rookie linebacker also flashed in Week 1. Styles managed four total tackles with a huge sack against the Eagles. If this is what Styles looks like as a rookie, it is frightening to imagine how good he could be in a couple of years.
But Styles was not the only Commanders player who had a big game in Week 3.
Washington got a great game out of backup QB Marcus Mariota. The journeyman quarterback finished 19-of-31 passing for 183 yards with three touchdowns. He also had five carries for 11 rushing yards, including a nine yard run to ice the game.
Commanders fans should feel confident know that Styles is a superstar in the making. If they can hold on for a few more games, Daniels could be back from injury too. Then the rest of the season could look a lot more optimistic.
