The Indianapolis Colts have gotten out to a terrible start of the 2026 regular season. Indy is 0-2 headed into Week 3 and is already losing important players to injuries. But one positive has been reuniting QB Daniel Jones with a familiar face from his Giants days.
Colts receiver Darius Slayton shared some insights about Jones during a recent interview. Slayton has a unique perspective after playing alongside Jones in New York for several seasons.
“Yeah I think people have an outside perception but I don't know that you can find a person that's played with him that way that wouldn't tell you they've got a lot of respect for him and enjoy him as a person,” Slayton said during a press conference on Wednesday, per The Athletic's James Boyd. “He's a good leader, gets along with guys, I think he inspires guys pretty well.”
Jones and Slayton spent six years together in New York from 2019-24. It stands to reason that Slayton would know Jones better than most other players in the NFL. Now they reunite in Indy with a chance to rekindle their close connection.
Slayton made it clear that Jones has much more going on inside than it appears on the surface.
“I know every time he comes up here he's pretty, you know, one page but there's fire in there, deep down inside that comes out,” Slayton added. “And we get to see that so that it definitely gives you a different perspective on him as a person.”
Jones is clearly worth every penny for the leadership he provides in the locker room. But last season's Achilles injury may still be holding him back on the actual gridiron.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see how involved Slayton is in the game plan this weekend. Slayton's prior experience playing with Jones could fast-track the entire process.
Next up for the Colts is a home game against the Texans. That AFC South matchup kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sept. 27 from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
