The Indianapolis Colts lost 42-7 on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game that got out of hand early, leading to Anthony Richardson replacing Daniel Jones. Richardson had a mostly unimpressive day statistically which led to cryptic Shane Steichen comments that he responded to after the game.
Richardson saw his first game action of the 2026-27 NFL season. After the game, he spoke on WISH-TV News of Indiana about an eye injury he suffered last year in comments that painted a scary picture for 2023's No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
“Yeah, there were definitely times where I would go to the doctor and they would tell me, they don't know if I'm gonna get my vision back, or stuff like that. I'm just grateful that I even just get a chance to go out there and throw a pass, regardless of if I step on the field or not. There was a day and a time where this wasn't promised for me, like I said I'm grateful for it and I'm thankful.”
Richardson came in for Jones and completed both of his passes while rushing twice for four yards. He replaced Jones, who threw two interceptions and was sacked three times, and may be in line to start next week.
Article Continues BelowThe Colts' only touchdown came from wide receiver Josh Downs, who had 23 yards and was a no-show during postgame media time. Jonathan Taylor had a pedestrian day amid trade rumors that don't seem to let up.
The Colts are going through a lot of changes right now, and it could soon lead to a bigger opportunity for Richardson, who is keeping things in perspective and refusing to take his opportunities for granted.
