New Los Angeles Lakers guard Collin Sexton, who has been listed as questionable leading up to the team's season-opening game against the Golden State Warriors, has been ruled out for Wednesday night's contest due to a right soleus strain.
Sexton did not participate in any of Los Angeles' five preseason games as a result of this injury he's been tending to over the last several weeks, but he did return to practice recently. Head coach JJ Redick said Sexton participated in full during the team's practice on Monday, yet the team decided to hold him out for their season opener against the Warriors.
“We’re taking it day by day,” Sexton said after Lakers’ practice on Monday, via ClutchPoints' Los Angeles reporter David Yapkowitz. “I had a really good practice … it felt good. Super excited to be back out there with the guys, so I look forward to it.”
This offseason, Sexton signed a two-year, $19.2 million contract with the Lakers as an unrestricted free agent. He is expected to hold a key role off the bench behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in Los Angeles' backcourt when he is healthy.
Splitting time with the Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets last season, Sexton averaged 15.4 points and 3.3 assists per game across 68 combined contests. The 27-year-old guard shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 40.1 percent from 3-point range during the 2025-26 season.

It is also possible rookie Cameron Carr could fill minutes in Redick's rotation left behind by Sexton.
After missing Wednesday's game against the Warriors, Sexton's next chance to make his Lakers debut will be on Friday night at home against the LA Clippers.
