The New Orleans Saints fell 31-30 to the Detroit Lions in a close overtime loss. Chris Olave was a man possessed for his club, as he ended the contest with a brilliant performance. It was so good, in fact, that he nearly set a new franchise record.

After totaling 182 receiving yards in the season opener, the 26-year-old wideout has officially recorded the second-most receiving yards in the first game of a season in Saints history, according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN. Wes Chandler is the only wideout ahead of Olave with 205 yards in the Week 1 opener in 1979.

“Per ESPN Research: Chris Olave's 182 receiving [yards] is the 2nd most in a season opener in franchise history (the record is held by Wes Chandler, who had 205 yards in 1979),” Terrell reported.

Olave hauled in his 182 yards off 13 targets, reeling in 10 of them for receptions. He did not score a touchdown, however, as Devaughn Vele, Juwan Johnson, and Noah Fant scored the three touchdowns through the air from quarterback Tyler Shough.

Chris Olave seemingly picked things up where he left off last season. The fourth year of his career was the best yet for the former first-round pick, as he finished with 100 receptions, 1,163 yards, and nine touchdowns, which are all career highs. If Week 1 this year is any indication, Olave could be in for another monster campaign.

He'll have a chance to build upon his strong first game in Week 2. The Saints are scheduled to face off against the Baltimore Ravens. It will be New Orleans' second straight contest on the road.
