The Kansas City Chiefs placed left tackle Josh Simmons on injured reserve last week. Then, a report came out from ESPN that one day before the Simmons IR move, he had been kicked out of a meeting by Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes for being a distraction.

When asked about the Simmons meeting situation on Sunday night, Reid clarified that the two incidents were completely unrelated.

“I've said so much on him. Rick's talked about him. This and that. Things happen. That's no reason that he was put on IR. He's got a bad back. He's gotta get that worked out, and that's the main thing. I'll leave it at that.”

Simmons was the Chiefs' first-round pick last season. However, he has struggled staying on the field amid injury issues. He made just eight appearances during his rookie season after suffering a fractured wrist at Thanksgiving. And he has yet to feature at all for the team during this campaign due to a lingering back issue.

But aside from his injuries, there have also been off-field concerns such his absence for a private family matter, as well as the reported meeting incident.

By itself, getting kicked out of a meeting (and later apologizing) does not seem like a seismic incident. But given the other concerns surrounding Simmons, particularly his health, the signs are pointing to him not being on the Chiefs for much longer. The fact that the story of him getting kicked out of the meeting raises some eyebrows about whether the Chiefs might be laying the groundwork for their move to part ways with him sooner rather than later.
