Justin Herbert is getting buried on the field and by NFL critics who feel he should be traded. Now the Los Angeles Chargers gained help for their franchise quarterback. One who brings past ties to the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jake Browning.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed on Wednesday that Browning will head over to coach Jim Harbaugh and company. Albeit Browning is joining the Chargers' practice squad first before earning a chance to join the active roster.

Los Angeles now gains a savvy and experienced backup. Especially one who needed to replace a past first rounder before amid an injury in Joe Burrow.

Browning owns a 4-6 overall record as a starter. But won all four of his games taking over for an injured Burrow during the 2023 season, which kept Cincinnati in postseason contention before missing the NFL Playoffs. However, he lost all three of his starts last year when Burrow needed to earn rest.

Browning never threw a pass for the Bucs, as he backed up franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield. Now he could earn his chance to line up behind center for the Bolts if things don't turn around for Herbert.
