Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey was ruled out with a concussion early in the second quarter against the Chiefs on Sunday, the team announced.

McConkey played the opening two drives, catching a 17-yard pass from quarterback Justin Herbert. It marked McConkey's first action since Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, a game in which McConkey left at halftime due to a foot injury.

The wide receiver suited up for the following week's game but didn't end up playing, with head coach Jim Harbaugh referring to McConkey as only an emergency option. McConkey then spent two days limited in practice before a full outing on Friday, taking him off the injury report.

His return was a welcome sight for a wide receiver room hampered with injuries. Winless on the season, Los Angeles entered Sunday already down leading pass catcher Tre' Harris due to a hamstring injury.

However, McConkey didn't make it for more than one quarter. He spent five minutes in the medical tent before heading back to the locker room for further evaluation, according to the CBS broadcast. The team ruled him out soon after with a concussion.

It's unclear when McConkey suffered the injury. His last snap was on a third down in the red zone before the Chargers kicked a 23-yard field goal.
