The Los Angeles Chargers already look doomed early in the 2026 season. LA is getting a lot of criticism in the national media after starting 0-2. The Chargers are showing a small sign of urgency by adding some firepower on offense before Week 3.

The Chargers have signed veteran receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the 53-man roster on Wednesday, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

MVS recently joined the Chargers on their practice squad after working out for the team on September 15th. Now he looks poised to get a shot on Sundays to help LA gain some life on offense.

LA originally looked for reinforcements at wide receiver after Ladd McConkey picked up an injury in Week 1. However, McConkey made a miraculous recovery and ended up playing in Week 2. He is currently not listed with any injury designation, which is a great sign for the Chargers.

Still, the addition of MVS should do nothing but help a Chargers offense that desperately needs a boost.

Chargers fans should measure their expectations for how big an impact Valdes-Scantling will have in Week 3. The veteran receiver has been a shadow of his former self for years now. In fact, the last time he played in more than five games was back in 2024.

MVS may not be his former self, but he is still a reliable target. That is something Justin Herbert could really use right now. Beyond McConkey, no receiver has gone over 100 receiving yards yet on the season. Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris simply have not looked good in Mike McDaniel's new offense.

It will be interesting to see how much work MVS gets in Week 3. LA will enter the weekend unlikely to win as they face one of the league's best teams.

Next up for the Chargers is a road game against the Bills.
