Justin Herbert will have a chance to play alongside a familiar face in Week 3, thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chargers have promoted tight end Patrick Herbert from the practice squad before Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. This move adds the quarterback’s younger brother to the active roster for the AFC matchup.
On Saturday, Los Angeles announced roster changes, including the elevation of Herbert, outside linebacker Caleb Murphy, and others. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared the news on social media and joked about the Herbert brothers connecting for a touchdown.
“Justin Herbert throwing a TD pass to his brother would be a solid outcome,” Rapoport wrote.
Patrick Herbert, a tight end, now has a chance to make his NFL debut alongside his brother. The Chargers made the move as they adjust to changes at tight end before Week 3.
Earlier in the week, Los Angeles put veteran tight end David Njoku on injured reserve after a knee injury. Charlie Kolar will also miss Sunday’s game against Buffalo due to a forearm injury. The Chargers recently added Hayden Rucci to the active roster as they manage their thin tight end group.
Oronde Gadsden is expected to take on a bigger role after being the only healthy tight end on the roster heading into Week 3. Last season, Gadsden had 664 receiving yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, so he could get more chances against the Bills.
The Chargers head into Week 3 still searching for their first win of the 2026 season after starting 0-2. They’ll travel to Highmark Stadium to take on a Buffalo team that has started the season with two wins. But for Chargers fans, the main story is whether Justin will connect with his brother Patrick for a memorable NFL touchdown.
