Celtic vs Ferencvaros predictions
The season before last, Celtic finished 21st in the league phase of the Champions League and then pushed Bayern Munich close in the knockout stage play-offs.
In the 90th minute of the second leg at the Allianz Arena, the aggregate score was locked at 2-2. However, Bayern struck in stoppage time to break Celtic hearts.
It was nonetheless a valiant effort from the Hoops, but the clubâÂÂs supporters had much less to cheer in Europe in 2025/26.
Celtic did not enter the Champions League after losing a qualifying play-off to Kairat of Kazakhstan.ÃÂ
After dropping into the Europa League, they finished 21st in the league phase before being unceremoniously dumped out by Stuttgart in the first part of the knockout rounds.
Celtic will be looking for much more on the continent this time around. They are once again in the Europa League having failed to qualify for the Champions League, losing to LASK in the play-offs.
Given they were 4-0 up on aggregate after 120 minutes of the two-legged tie, that defeat was a massive embarrassment for Celtic.ÃÂ
Another disappointment occurred at the weekend, as Celtic went down 3-0 to Rangers in an Old Firm derby in the Scottish League Cup.
The supporters will expect a response when Ferencvaros head to Glasgow on Thursday, but Celtic are unlikely to have everything their own way on matchday one of the Europa League.
Celtic vs Ferencvaros tips
Celtic face Ferencvaros on matchday one of the 2025/26 Europa League season.
Celtic to bounce back
Ferencvaros won the Hungarian title last season, when they also reached the last 16 of the Europa League - thus outperforming Celtic in EuropeâÂÂs secondary competition.
It would be a mistake for anyone at Parkhead to underestimate CelticâÂÂs upcoming opponents, who are more than capable of getting a result in Glasgow.
On balance, though, we lean towards Celtic. They were poor against Rangers last time out, but in a strange way that could actually help them on Thursday.ÃÂ
Martin OâÂÂNeill proved last term that there is life in the old dog yet, and he will be desperate to oversee a European win in this one.
â½ Tip Celtic to win at 4/6 with Midnite â½
Celtic seek defensive response
Celtic were second best in every department against Rangers on Sunday. That is a worrying sign for Martin OâÂÂNeillâÂÂs side going forward.
The veteran Celtic boss will hope his teamâÂÂs sub-par showing was a one-off, but there is no doubt that OâÂÂNeillâÂÂs men must tighten up if they are to get anything from this game against Ferencvaros.
Defensive solidity will arguably be OâÂÂNeillâÂÂs priority given the way in which his side crumbled in the face of Rangers pressure at the weekend.ÃÂ
This will not necessarily be a low-scoring affair, but we envisage a maximum of three goals at Celtic Park.
â½ Go for under 3.5 goals at 3/5 with Betfred â½
Who will find net?
It will be interesting to see how Martin OâÂÂNeill configures his attack for the visit of Ferencvaros.ÃÂ
Instead of choosing one or the other, the Celtic boss found a way to fit Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh into the same XI against Rangers.
It remains to be seen whether or not he does the same here, but Duran is likely to be in the team one way or another.
The Colombian has looked sharp following a summer switch from Qarabag, and at evens he is good value to make the net bulge against Ferencvaros.
â½ Back Camilo Duran to score any time at evens with SBK â½
