With their 8-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday courtesy of a six-run eighth inning, the New York Yankees have booked their place in the 2026 MLB postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons. In fact, the Yankees are in the middle of a 34-year winning season streak, and during that span, they've only missed the postseason seven times.

Nonetheless, the Yankees know that making it to the postseason is only one step towards their ultimate goal of winning a World Series title. The proud franchise has won 27 World Series titles in its illustrious history, but they have not broken through since 2009.

At the very least, clinching a postseason spot gives them another chance to, perhaps, break their title drought that is already lengthy by the franchise's lofty standards. For Yankees star Cam Schlittler, he is looking forward to performing under the bright lights of the postseason.

“Obviously job's not done,” Schlittler told Meredith Marakovits of YES Network. “It's a great feeling. Playoff baseball is special. Being able to experience that a little bit last year is a great feeling. Taking the experience out there from last year into this season, I'm very comfortable going out there and trying to help this team win games.”

The Yankees, following this latest victory, are sitting just 3.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings. They still have everything to play for with 12 games remaining in the regular season; after all, winning the AL East crown should guarantee that New York earns a bye into the ALDS — avoiding the dreaded Wild Card round altogether.

For Schlittler, he believes that the Yankees can indeed finish the season above the Rays in the standings.

“I think we've played them very well this year. We still got a shot to win the division. We just got to stay on this, take the momentum into the next few days and into Arizona,” Schlittler added.
