It's the biggest game of the season for both BYU and Utah as they collide in the Holy War. The big news surrounding the Cougars is the status of senior running back LJ Martin.
Pete Thamel of ESPN provided a somewhat mixed update on Martin. While he has practiced and looks on course to play, his role will likely be limited against the Utes.
Martin has not featured since picking up an injury in the Cougars' 17-10 win over TCU on Oct. 3. But even though he's missed all that time, Martin remains the team's leading rusher this season with 344 yards and three touchdowns. All three of those touchdowns came in a brilliant performance against Colorado State, where he had 176 yards on just 15 carries.
With Martin out, fellow senior Preston Rex has been helping carry the load in the backfield alongside quarterback Bear Bachmeier. He has 223 yards on 39 carries with two touchdowns this season.

With major College Football Playoff implications for both teams, BYU will need all the help they can get to overcome an undefeated Utah on the road. While Martin likely won't be close to full strength for the game, having him back will still be a welcome development for the Cougars. He had a starring role in BYU's 24-21 win over Utah last season, rushing for a team-high 122 yards.
