Browns vs. Buccaneers prediction: Odds, expert picks, QB matchup, injury update, betting trends, and stats

Both the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter Week 2 desperate to avoid an 0-2 start. The Browns are already looking up at every other team in the AFC North as Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cincinnati each won last week. A member of the downtrodden or at least slow-starting NFC South, the Bucs remain tied for first entering Week 2.

To say the Browns’ opener last Sunday was a disappointment would be an understatement. Cleveland managed only 272 total yards, were outgained 360-272, and struggled to sustain drives throughout the afternoon. Calls for DeShaun Watson to take a seat on the bench have intensified following a game in which the veteran threw for 205 yards, but the Browns never threatened to challenge the Jaguars in this one. Defensively, they had few answers for Trevor Lawrence. Tampa Bay also lost their opener on the road in Cincinnati thanks in large part to four fumbles – three by Baker Mayfield – in a 33-27 loss to Joe Burrow and the Bengals. The Bucs led 3-0 early but trailed before the end of the first quarter and never recovered despite limiting Ja’Marr Chase to just two catches for 12 yards.

When we talk about storylines for this one, let’s remember Mayfield was drafted first overall by the Browns in 2018. A strength of his is the chip on his shoulder he carries since Cleveland soured on him. As it was during Mayfield’s time in Cleveland, the Browns’ situation under center is also a storyline. Watson must begin to look downfield and subsequently throw the ball downfield.

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find a sweat or two.
