Cleveland Browns legend Nick Chubb announced his retirement this past summer before sharing one key reason for his subsequent one-day contract. Chubb created unforgettable moments in Cleveland and is the Brown's third all-time leading rusher behind Leroy Kelly and Jim Brown.
Chubb addressed the city and franchise's reputation ahead of the team's September 27 home game against the Panthers, pushing back against negative connotations that have arisen. His comments were shared by News 5 Cleveland's Camryn Justice.
“Back in 2018 when I got drafted, I wasn't sure what I was comin' into because the team had just gone 1-15. And so, at that time, Cleveland wasn't a team that everyone talked about. And so when I got here, I realized that what people on the outside thought was completely wrong about Cleveland. It's a special place, and you've got be here to see it, and the people, the team, the organization, the fans, just everybody being a part of the city makes it special.”
The 2026-27 Browns aren't a high profile team and head coach Todd Monken is tired of addressing the team's Deshaun Watson led QB situation. Monken, Watson and the Browns have shown signs of being a competitive team this year, but Super Bowl goals are pretty much out of the question as the Panthers game draws near.
Chubb's presence reminds Browns fans that Cleveland is a city worthy of having star players in the fold and worthy of greatness on the gridiron. He sounds like the type of player who will stay close to his former team in retirement and help them bridge the gap between eras. Browns fans know all too well what happens when transition periods don't go smoothly.
