The Denver Broncos opted to utilize a running back by committee system this year. That decision has proven wise, as all three of the team's ball carriers are already dealing with injury issues. J.K. Dobbins, the team's starting running back, left the Week 2 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars with cramping/hamstring issues.
RJ Harvey missed that game because of a hamstring injury, but he is progressing in his recovery. Jonah Coleman was the standout ball carrier in the absence of the other two, as he was able to punch the ball into the end zone for his first career score. However, Coleman suffered a sprained ankle in his coming out party. The injury updates were reported by Adam Schefter.
When on the field, Dobbins has proven himself as one of the most talented running backs in football. However, health has always been his biggest enemy. The Ohio State product missed all of 2021, most of 2023, and chunks of each year since his rookie campaign because of injury issues.
The other two backs were recent draft investments of Denver's. Harvey was taken 60th overall in 2025. As a rookie last year, the UCF product showed a knack for making big plays, but he wasn't the most consistent runner, either. Coleman was drafted in the fourth round out of Washington this year. He is a physical runner who rounds out what has the potential to be a great unit, if the running backs can stay healthy.
After struggling on offense in Week 1, the Broncos' offense looked great against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Big offseason addition Jaylen Waddle had a monstrous game, and Bo Nix looked more like himself. The Broncos need their ball carriers to get healthy with the Los Angeles Rams next on the schedule.
