The Denver Broncos fell flat on their face during their season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, suffering a 31-10 loss on the road. They scarcely looked like the powerhouse that almost made it to the Super Bowl after finishing with a 14-3 record last season. The Chiefs, simply put, outplayed them on both sides of the ball — with Kenneth Walker III being the star of the show in his debut for Kansas City.

The Broncos do have most of the same guys that helped them emerge as one of the NFL's powerhouses in 2025, but they did make a major change behind the scenes by hiring Davis Webb as the offensive coordinator and the main play-caller. Last year, it was head coach Sean Payton who primarily called the shots, and in Webb's first game as the OC, the Broncos looked lethargic on that end of the field.

Nothing of what Denver did on the field worked. QB Bo Nix completed just 17 of his 28 passes for a total of 131 yards, and he threw a pick. He even got sacked four times — an indictment of how poor the O-line was on the night. Moreover, they could not make up for it in the running game, as they only recorded 61 total rushing yards on 15 carries.

Suffice to say, Webb, at the very least, did not help matters at all in his debut as the Broncos' offensive coordinator. But in a league where everyone is fixated on what one has done for them lately, the Broncos OC drew plenty of ire on social media — especially after Denver failed to score a single touchdown in the second half of their loss to Kansas City.

“Terrible play calling from first time play caller Davis Webb. Yes Bo Nix was terrible but it didn’t help his cause, a nightmare start for Denver. Sean Payton better make a decision on who’s calling plays or it’s gonna be the Chiefs division to lose,” X user @NickCorbett54 wrote.

“Sean Payton decided to let Davis Webb call plays. I wouldnt be shocked if Payton is calling plays again before Sept is over lol,” @DerekEvans20 added.

“4 more weeks maximum of Davis Webb playcalling,” @cblang45 furthered.

“Davis Webb needs to go ahead and put the headset down,” @pharris5987 expressed.
