The 2026 Monday Night Football opener witnessed its share of theatrics. Jaylen Waddle turned heads through some trickery called by Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton. But Brandon Jones delivered an epic defensive moment on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Jones stood back as one of the deep safeties with Mahomes firing from inside his end zone. The Broncos defender then became a bruising back from there in picking off the three-time Super Bowl winner.
Jones powered his way past the Chiefs' five-yard line to set up a new scoring situation for Denver.

The Broncos managed to turn it into a field goal, cutting the Kansas City lead to 21-10 during the third quarter. But the Chiefs continued to control the tempo of the game, tacking on their own field goal in building the lead to 24-10 late in that same period.
Denver has forced Mahomes into some early struggles, though. Mahomes has completed just 10 passes before the fourth quarter arrived out of 21 attempts. He's settled for 127 yards while tossing just one touchdown. Jones handed Mahomes his lone takeaways of the contest inside Arrowhead Stadium.
The veteran defender also has delivered three tackles during the two-touchdown deficit for the AFC runner-ups. Denver managed to return to the conference title weekend stage last year as the Chiefs endured an injury-ravaged 2025 campaign. Except the Broncos' attempt at returning to the Super Bowl fell short against the New England Patriots.
Denver, however, is struggling to establish momentum offensively against this revamped Chiefs team. So Jones rises as one of the few highlights of the evening on the visitor's side.
