The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays meet Monday night in Game 3 of the World Series, and the Brewers hold a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The series shifts to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., with first pitch set for 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
Tampa Bay fired out of the chute in Game 2, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning against RHP Logan Henderson, and it appears the Rays were on their way to gaining a road split in Cream City before coming home. But, the Brewers stormed back with five unanswered runs to pick up the 5-4 win.
Rays C Liam Hicks swatted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning off of Henderson, and he now has four RBI in this World Series. CF Jonny DeLuca was the only Tampa Bay hitter to record a multi-hit game, posting a single and a double in four at-bats.
Brewers LF Jackson Chourio went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a stolen base out of the leadoff spot, while C William Contreras finished 2 for 5 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a stolen base. RF Sal Frelick launched the only homer for the home side, finishing 2 for 4 with a solo homer.
The Brewers turn to LHP Robert Gasser to make his third start of the season. He is 0-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 0.89 ERA across nine innings in two starts in the playoffs. In the regular season, the Rays went 31-17 against left-handed starting pitchers.
The Rays counter with the red-hot RHP Freddy Peralta, a former Brewer, who is 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across three starts and one relief appearance in these playoffs.
The current assortment of Brewers are hitting .361 (13 for 36) with four doubles, two homers and five RBI with a .639 slugging percentage and 1.034 OPS against the Tampa Bay starter, with Cooper Pratt going a perfect 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI in his career. Andrew Vaughn is 5 for 11 with a double, a homer and two RBI with a 1.273 OPS.
Milwaukee heads into Game 3 with seven consecutive playoff victories, while going 9-1 in this postseason. It has won three consecutive postseason games on the road, too, while the Over is 4-1 in the past five outings.
Tampa Bay has dropped back-to-back games for the first time in this postseason. At home, the Rays are 4-1 in five tries, with the lone loss coming in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians. They’re 3-0 in three starts with Peralta on the hill, though.
We’ll back the red-hot Peralta in Game 3, taking the RAYS (-120) as slight favorites in front of their raucous crowd at The Trop.
In addition, let’s roll with the OVER 6.5 (-152) in Game 3, as the Rays should be able to make a little noise against Gasser, while the Brewers should get to Peralta for at least a couple of runs, too. Let’s go OVER 4.5 STRIKEOUTS (-130) on Peralta’s player strikeouts, too.
