The Atlanta Braves boosted their pitching depth on Tuesday by claiming a former Los Angeles Dodgers hurler.

“The #Braves today also claimed RHP Michael Grove off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett,” the team announced. 

The move comes after the team placed Reynaldo Lopez on the IL and recalled JR Ritchie earlier in the day.

Grove displayed signs of potential with the Dodgers but dealt with injury concerns. He worked as both a starter and reliever with LA from 2022-2024. Grove did not appear in the big leagues in 2025 but landed a deal with the Rays in 2026. He ultimately appeared in just three games with Tampa Bay.

Overall, Grove has turned in a 5.47 ERA across 67 career MLB outings, 20 of which have been starts. The right-hander may not impact the Braves this season, but he could earn a spot next year by performing well in the minor leagues. His career ERA is obviously far from ideal, but the idea of Grove reinventing himself as a reliable reliever is not out of the question.

As for the Braves, they are currently gearing up for the postseason. Atlanta holds an 88-63 record, which is good for first place in the National League East standings. The Braves are 4.5 games ahead of the second place Philadelphia Phillies in the division.

On Tuesday, Atlanta will play the Chicago Cubs on the road at 7:40 PM ET. The Braves are hoping to bounce back, as they are trailing in the three-game series 1-0 at the moment.
