BMW PGA Championship betting preview

For followers of the DP World Tour, there is nowhere quite like the West Course at Wentworth.

When it became the regular host of the BMW PGA Championship in the mid-1980s it was also the venue for the end-of-season World Matchplay Championship so Europe’s great renaissance of that decade is forever associated with the tree-lined fairways of the wonderful Harry Colt design.

Say “Wentworth” in a word association game, and the names Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam will be flung back at you - and the present has always delivered as well as the past.

The tour is not fond of the phrase “flagship tournament” but that is what this week is, with a celebrity pro-am, an elite field, the circuit’s best tented village, a gig on Saturday night, and sell-out crowds.

We’re set for a treat with a good weather forecast, but who is worth a bet? Let’s find out.

The BMW PGA Championship betting tips

Here are some key betting tips and insights for the BMW PGA Championship 2026.

🏌️‍♂️ Ludvig Aberg Each Way

Fans of the TV show Ludvig will know that the lead character is fond of a puzzle, and his Swedish namesake is something of a riddle, too.

The 26-year-old is clearly outrageously talented and has taken to professional golf with ease, playing well in the majors, shining in the Ryder Cup, and regularly earning his way into the PGA’s Tour Championship with ease (indeed, he was fourth there last time out).

He has struggled to land the wins, however, and currently has just two of them on the PGA Tour and one on the DP World Tour.

But is Wentworth the secret to solving this Ludvig mystery?

Because it was designed by Harry Colt, as was Sea Island which is where he won his first pro title.

He was also the third round leader when 10th at Wentworth on debut in 2023 and the first round leader last year when 20th.

He can contend through 72 holes this week.

🏌️‍♂️ Thriston Lawrence Each Way

If the South African can just pretend he’s at altitude this week he has a great chance.

How so? Well, all six of his DP World Tour wins have come in thin air.

It’s an astonishing record, but he was also second at Wentworth two years ago - and that sixth win came just two weeks ago in Switzerland.

Given both an excellent course record and winning current form, a three-figure offer is very tempting.

🏌️‍♂️ Matteo Manasserp Top 20

The Italian loves Wentworth because he watched videos of Ballesteros winning there when he was a child.

When he won the 2013 BMW PGA Championship, he even wore blue and green in honour of the great Spaniard.

He was also the 54-hole leader at Wentworth in 2024, and that was neat because that was the season he bounced back to the top level of the game.

He missed the cut last year when struggling to play both sides of the pond, but he finished top 20 last week - and that was a second top 20 in his last four starts.

There is no better place for him to build on that than the West Course where he is 4 for 11 at landing a top 20.
