As the Columbus Blue Jackets are prepping for the year in the preseason, they've made sure to re-sign one of their key players to an extension. Adam Fantilli and the team agreed to a six-year, $82.5 million contract through the 2031-32 season.

Club President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddel announced the deal.

“Adam Fantilli has all of the tools you look for in a player – speed, size, skill – along with a competitive drive to succeed,” Waddell said. “He is one of the most exciting young players in the NHL and a big part of what we are building in Columbus, so this is a very exciting day for our organization and our fans.”

There was uncertainty at first about whether the Blue Jackets would get a deal done, as it was reported that he was in a standoff with the team.

In the end, there's no surprise that the Blue Jackets re-upped with Fantilli after what he was able to do for the team last season. He set single-season career highs in assists, points, power play goals and shots with 24-35-59, four PPG and 214 shots on 18:54 TOI. He also finished tied for the team lead in even-strength goals, ranked second in goals, third in points and shots on goal and fourth in assists.

Since making his debut in 2023 with the Blue Jackets, he's recorded 67 goals and 73 assists for 140 points with 72 penalty minutes and 520 shots on goal, and averaged 17:37 of ice time in 213 career games.

Fantilli should continue to be a key piece for the Blue Jackets as they look to improve from last season, finishing with a 40-30-12 record.
