Buffalo looks to improve to 3-0 against Los Angeles, but a slew of question marks at the wide receiver position could drastically impact your fantasy lineup

The Buffalo Bills are looking to ride the momentum of their undefeated 2-0 start as they prepare to host the winless Los Angeles Chargers at Highmark Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Bills have been operating at a high level under head coach Joe Brady, but they are suddenly dealing with a handful of lingering injuries that have complicated the picture for fantasy football managers.

Buffalo made waves during the offseason by overhauling their receiving corps, but the injury bug is threatening to bite their most important playmakers. The Bills will get their first true test of their receiver depth if their primary targets are unable to suit up.

Head coach Joe Brady has several game-time decisions to monitor as Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. kickoff approaches. While the Bills are in strong shape defensively, the offensive skill positions are suddenly a massive question mark after Friday's practice.

The most alarming news for fantasy managers came when the final injury report dropped on Friday afternoon. Both of Buffalo's top wide receivers, veteran DJ Moore and explosive rookie Keon Coleman, are officially listed as questionable for the Week 3 tilt.

Moore is currently dealing with a shoulder injury and experienced a disjointed week of practice. He was limited on Wednesday, held out entirely on Thursday, and returned for a limited session on Friday. Coleman, meanwhile, is battling an ankle issue. The rookie pass-catcher did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday before finally logging a limited practice on Friday.

“I'm going to give them all the way through till game time,” Brady noted. “And I have confidence in them. When they're ready to go, they'll be ready to go”.

If you are a fantasy manager rostering Moore or Coleman, you need to have a backup plan ready. Because they play in the early afternoon window, you will at least have clarity before the later games kick off. However, if one or both are sidelined, Buffalo's target share will shift dramatically.

If both Moore and Coleman are held out, Josh Allen may be forced to rely heavily on the ground game and shorter, high-percentage throws over the middle of the field. This game script would theoretically cap Allen's ceiling as an elite passer, though his rushing upside always provides a safe fantasy floor.

For the pass catchers, Khalil Shakir would slide into the WR1 role by default, making him a highly intriguing flex play in deeper leagues. Similarly, Dalton Kincaid, who has already established himself as a reliable safety blanket, would likely see an uptick in target volume, firmly cementing his status as a top-five tight end for the week.

A veteran running back makes his season debut

The good news for the Bills offense is the return of a familiar face in the backfield. Running back Ty Johnson is officially off the injury report and is fully expected to make his season debut on Sunday. Johnson had missed the first two weeks of the season due to a hamstring injury, but he logged full practices on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

“Ty Johnson will be good to go,” Brady confirmed.

While James Cook remains the undisputed lead back in Buffalo, Johnson's return could muddy the waters for fantasy managers hoping for Cook to command a dominant 80-percent snap share. Johnson is a capable third-down back and reliable pass protector. His presence may not bench Cook, but it could limit Cook's ceiling in full-PPR leagues if Johnson steals a handful of third-down passing snaps.

Defensive line battles minor ailments

On the defensive side of the ball, defensive tackle Ed Oliver is listed as questionable with a hip issue. However, fantasy managers relying on the Buffalo D/ST should not panic just yet. After sitting out Wednesday and being limited Thursday, Oliver was a full participant during Friday’s practice, suggesting he is trending in the right direction.

Unfortunately, the defense will be missing a pair of depth pieces. Defensive back Jordan Hancock has been ruled out with a hamstring injury that surfaced during practice this week, and defensive lineman T.J. Sanders is also out after undergoing an appendectomy. Even with these absences, the Bills defense remains a top-tier fantasy option this week as they face a struggling Chargers team.

When it comes to the Bills in Week 3, fantasy managers must pay close attention to the inactive list on Sunday morning. The availability of Moore and Coleman will ultimately dictate how Buffalo's offense attacks through the air.
