Ben Johnson: We didn't get into this profession to be mediocre or average

Bears head coach Ben Johnson said during his postgame press conference on Sunday that he “slept really well” on Saturday night because of how “on top of it” quarterback Caleb Williams was in their final meeting.

Johnson will likely be sleeping well on Sunday as well. Williams threw two touchdowns, ran for two more and directed an offense that put up 552 yards in a 59-37 win over the Panthers. Johnson spoke about wanting to be the highest-scoring team in the league this offseason and he was asked if the aggressive approach on Sunday was tied to that desire.

“That’ll always be the goal,” Johnson said. “We want to be the highest scoring, we want to have the most wins, we want to win Super Bowls. That’s what we do. We didn’t get into this profession trying to be mediocre or average. That’s every NFL team. That is what it is.”

There were high hopes for the second season of the Johnson/Williams partnership in Chicago. Week 1 did nothing to dim thoughts of what the duo will be able to do on offense this season.
