On Sunday, the Chicago Bears suffered their first loss of the season with a 9-3 defeat at the hands of the divisional rival Minnesota Vikings. The biggest story of this game was a non-contact injury suffered by quarterback Caleb Williams, who was carted off the field in the fourth quarter with what was later reported to be a hamstring ailment.
Fans on social media were quick to weigh in with the theory that the âÂÂMadden Curse,â deriving from Williams' recent appearance on the popular video game, is to blame for the injury.
âÂÂMadden curse is so real,â wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.
âÂÂStart turning it down people,â advised another.
Tyler Bagent entered the game for Williams and ended up leading the Bears on a drive down the field, but the game ended when he was sacked by Vikings star Dallas Turner as time expired.
Initially, some had feared that it might have been a knee injury for Williams, so the fact that it involves his hamstring is theoretically the preferable option. Still, at this point, there is no word on the severity of the injury or how much time he could potentially miss as a result.
Meanwhile, even when Williams was on the field, the Bears' much-hyped offense was completely shut down on Sunday, which will surely cause some sleepless nights for Ben Johnson over the coming days.
The Bears will next hit the field on September 28 for a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
