After a historic Week 1 for the Chicago Bears in their 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, the offense was led by a highly productive outing from quarterback Caleb Williams. With Williams' MVP odds going up after the high-scoring Bears win, the website Pro Football Focus (PFF) believes the performance wasn't as grand as many are making it out to believe, leading to a bunch of reactions from fans.

In Sunday's victory, Williams threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns on completing 21 of 29 pass attempts, to go along with 65 yards and two scores on the ground. However, PFF would have Williams ranked as the 20th-best quarterback in Week 1 with a 62.5 grade.

Amid the outrage, PFF released an article explaining the grade, with an accompanying social media post saying it “measures the part of the play the quarterback controls.”

“Important reminder,” the PFF account wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “What the PFF grade measures is the part of the play the QB actually controls — the read, the decision, the throw. Not the result that lands in the box score.”

Bears beat writers chime in on PFF's controversial Caleb Williams grade. 

Even Chicago's beat writers chimed in, with Adam Hoge accusing PFF of ‘gaslighting' fans about Williams' performance, and Adam Jahns posting a sarcastic GIF.

“Attempting to gaslight people by accusing them of box score watching is pretty messed up, when in reality they watched the same tape you did and came to a more accurate conclusion,” Hoge wrote on X. “I don’t have a problem with Caleb getting a negative grade for the INT that didn’t count, but giving him a -1.5 for a no play and only a 1.0 for the hole shot TD to Kmet proves the issue here is the grader, not the player.”
