The Chicago Bears cut loose for 59 points, lifting Caleb Williams into the MVP conversation. And Dan Orlovsky seems to be warming up to Williams. Perhaps advice from Drew Brees might have stuck with Williams, said Ben Johnson, according to a post on X by Ari Meirov.
âÂÂHC Ben Johnson says Caleb Williams told him about advice he got from Drew Brees, who called the game for FOX: the difference between a 60% and 70% completion rate is 3 more completions per game. âÂÂThat mightâÂÂve stuck with our guy a little bit,â Johnson said with a smile.âÂÂ
Williams hit on 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two scores as the Bears humbled the Panthers, 59-37.
Bears QB Caleb Williams off to a roaring start
Johnson said he thought Williams would have a big game, according to ESPN.
âÂÂI could kind of tell (Saturday) night when we did our quarterback meeting one last time that he was just on top of it,â Johnson said. âÂÂEverything he was rattling out, like where my eyes need to be and what IâÂÂm thinking. So I went to bed and just slept really well.âÂÂ

âÂÂCaleb Williams: âÂÂThat's who we want to be this week. We got to go clean up. We want to be truthers. Obviously, this is going to be our kind of worst game. I know points don't necessarily show that, but execution, the blocking, the penalties, all these different things.â âÂÂ
The key thing about Williams is he seems ready to take the next step in his NFL career. ItâÂÂs his third year, so itâÂÂs a good time to raise his level of play. Of course, one game wonâÂÂt get him there. But it certainly gives him a fantastic head start.
With the division foe Vikings up next, Williams should get a much tougher defensive test.
