BCCI postpones IPL conclave scheduled for October 15 in Mumbai

The joint review meeting involving franchise owners, broadcasters and 13 hosting state associations has been deferred indefinitely, with no revised date announced yet.

India's cricket board has postponed the joint IPL review meeting that was set for October 15, 2026, at Taj Santacruz, Mumbai. The gathering, scheduled to begin at 6 pm, had been convened to bring together IPL franchise owners, chief executives, broadcasters and representatives from the 13 state associations that host IPL matches across the country.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia issued a postponement notification via email on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2026, as reported by Cricbuzz. The communication confirmed that no revised date or venue had been fixed at the time of the announcement, leaving the meeting deferred indefinitely.

"This is to inform you that the meeting with the IPL Franchise Owners, CEOs, IPL Hosting State Associations and Broadcasters, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Mumbai, has been postponed. “The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the felicitation ceremony," Saikia wrote as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Saikia's email cited two reasons for the deferral. First, the Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men's and women's teams for their performances at the recently concluded Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi, requiring BCCI officials to be present at the ceremony. Second, several stakeholders had themselves written in to request a postponement.

"Additionally, requests have been received from various stakeholders seeking a postponement of the meeting. In view of the above, and with a view to facilitating maximum participation in person, it has been decided to postpone the meeting. The revised date and venue will be communicated in due course," Saikia wrote.

Why did BCCI officials need to be in New Delhi on October 15?

The Prime Minister is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men's and women's cricket teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. BCCI officials are required to attend the ceremony, making it impossible for them to simultaneously host the IPL conclave in Mumbai on the same date.

The timing also coincides with a busy phase of the international calendar. India's men's team is engaged in a five-match T20I series against West Indies, with the fourth game scheduled for October 14, 2026, in Hyderabad. Players are then set to travel to New Delhi on October 15 for the felicitation before heading to Bengaluru for the fifth and final T20I on October 17, 2026.

What is the significance of the postponed IPL meeting?

The conclave had been called at a particularly important moment, with the IPL preparing to enter its landmark 20th season in 2027. Bringing franchise owners, broadcasters and all 13 hosting state associations under one roof for a joint review underlines the scale of planning required ahead of that milestone edition.

With no revised date communicated yet, stakeholders across franchises, broadcasters and state associations will need to wait for a fresh schedule from the BCCI. Saikia's email assured all parties that the new date and venue would be shared in due course, though no timeline was attached to that commitment.
