The Tampa Bay Buccaneers shut down the Atlanta Falcons, 16-0, at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday despite Baker Mayfield having zero completions.
Mayfield went 0-of-3, as the nonstop rain forced the Buccaneers to abandon their passing game to survive the Falcons. He had four carries for 14 yards.
Bucky Irving had 27 carries for 170 yards and one touchdown, while Kenny Gainwell added 25 carries for 140 yards. Chase McLaughlin kicked 3-of-3 for 10 points.
Mayfield played against Kevin Stefanski, his former coach on the Cleveland Browns. In the postgame conference, the 31-year-old quarterback was asked if he had the chance to talk to Stefanski before or after the game. He gave a succinct answer.
“Nope,” said Mayfield.

He and Stefanski did not have a good relationship during their time together in Cleveland. In 2022, Mayfield issued a trade request and was shipped to the Carolina Panthers. The Browns fired Stefanski in January. The Falcons hired him a few days later.
Mayfield, who recently returned from a three-week absence due to a thumb injury, stressed that he did not care about his production against the Falcons.

“If I’m not gonna throw the ball, I have to get active somehow.”
The Buccaneers improved to 3-5, winning at home for the first time. They became the first team to have zero completions since the Buffalo Bills in 1974.
Tampa Bay will visit the Chicago Bears in a primetime affair in Week 9.
