Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani still had a better season that many players could ever dream of in 2026. Still, he was limited to hitting only at the end of the regular season as well as the postseason due to injury. At the plate, Ohtani struggled toward the end of the campaign and in the playoffs. Opinions are already being shared in reference to whether or not Ohtani should continue to pitch moving forward. Greg Amsinger of MLB Network, however, believes Ohtani will have the “greatest season” of all-time in 2027.

“I've never seen the frustration, anger, excitement come out of this human being like I saw when he hit that bomb (in Game 4 against the Milwaukee Brewers), that three-run bomb,” Amsinger said during an MLB Network segment. “Shohei Ohtani is not going to win the MVP (this year), this is not breaking news, we know it's gonna go to Pete Crow-Armstrong… I think we have the video of him reacting to his home run, and what we witnessed when he hit that homer and looked into his dugout and screamed, and said, ‘Let's go,' and threw his bat and scowled and frowned and there was anger in this man… I'm sorry, ladies and gentleman, get ready for the greatest season in the history of baseball next year.”

Ohtani had been mired in a slump before crushing his three-run home run in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. When he finally connected on a long ball, Ohtani seemingly displayed more emotion than he ever had before.

It was a moment he clearly needed. The homer gave LA a 4-0 lead. Milwaukee ended up coming back and winning the game by a final score of 6-4 to clinch a spot in the World Series. Nevertheless, Amsinger is convinced that Ohtani is going to have additional motivation next season.

So, what may the “greatest season in the history of baseball” look like?

“He may hit 70 homers,” Amsinger added. “He might have a sub-one ERA… This dude is going to come out with a vengeance.”

Shohei Ohtani has already had some memorable seasons, but Amsinger believes 2027 may be his best yet.
