Alexander Isak has revealed that it was an 'easy' decision to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool, and he regrets nothing.
The Swedish international departed the Magpies on transfer deadline day to join the Reds in a British record ã125million deal last year.
However, the move was far from amicable.
After helping the Magpies win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League, Isak refused to play in any of Newcastle's pre-season games.
He spent part of the summer training away from the club in an effort to force a move away from Tyneside.
Newcastle rejected a couple of offers from Liverpool and the season started with Isak refusing to play in the first three games of the year.
The striker released a bombshell statement at one point in which he claimed the club had broken some promises to him.
In the end, Newcastle managed to sign Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, allowing Isak to complete his transfer to Liverpool.
And in his first proper sit-down interview of the season with the BBC, Isak insists he made the right decision.
What has Isak said on his Newcastle exit?
Isak admitted: "[Liverpool] is a massive club, and everything about the club made it an easy decision.
"And the club's ambition and the club's will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it.
Asked if he regretted the switch, he added: "No, never. I would never think like that."
Bouncing back
After missing all of Newcastle's pre-season to force through his move to Anfield, Isak was well short of fitness.
The 26-year-old's first start in the Premier League for Liverpool came at the end of September against Crystal Palace.
He didn't score a top-flight goal until the end of November against West Ham.
Isak then suffered a broken leg while scoring against Tottenham after a Micky van de Ven tackle in a desperate attempt to stop the goal.
But Van de Ven accidentally crunched Isak, and he returned near the end of the year to score one more goal against Palace at Anfield.
Speaking about that injury, Isak said: "[The leg break] was tough. Anyone who had a long injury would know. But on the other hand, when you're in a good place and when you feel good, you don't really tend to look back because it doesn't really benefit you. So I'm just looking forward and feel really optimistic and excited about the season, and what it can bring to us."
Mixed start
The opening game of the season saw Isak return to St James' Park for the first time since his move.
He was booed throughout and called a 'rat' by the Toon fans, who rather enjoyed his miss in the second half during the 2-2 draw.
Isak then scored at home to Nottingham Forest and grabbed a double in a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.
In that match, he looked much more like the Isak of old, but since then, he's blanked against Atletico Madrid and Fulham.
However, Isak believes Liverpool will go on to have a great season.
"Everyone knows that success for this club is winning trophies. I want to score every game. Everyone is different. Some like to set targets and some don't. I'm the one that doesn't."
