The Akron football team can't seem to catch a break in the quarterback injury department. Heading into the Akron-UNLV game on Saturday, it was announced that QB Cibastian Broughton is out after suffering an injury in a loss to Minnesota, and Brayden Roggow is in as a first-time college starter.

“Akron sophomore QB Brayden Roggow makes his 1st career start vs. UNLV today, source told @On3. Roggow replaces starter QB Cibastian Broughton, who is out w/knee injury suffered last week vs. Minnesota,” On3's Brett McMurphy reported on Saturday.

Broughton is a redshirt freshman who was a three-star recruit coming out of high school. Through three games, he was 53-of-66 for 380 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also ran for 170 yards on 30 carries.

Roggow takes over as Akron gets ready to face UNLV as a redshirt sophomore who also had three stars from recruiting services coming out of high school in Tiffin, Ohio. He has seen action in all three Akron games this season, and is 24-of-38 for 231 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He saw his most action of the season after Broughton went out against the Golden Gophers, but Roggow had an under 50% completion rate on the afternoon.

Like the Zips, the Rebels are 1-2 on the season and are looking to get back on track after a loss. Last week, UNLV took a major beatdown, losing 44-0 to North Texas. This is a home game for Akron, but the Zips were nearly two touchdowns underdogs heading into the contest, at least partially because of the QB issues.
