Former NBA guard Lou Williams is backing Jaylen Brown's fiery response to Jayson Tatum, welcoming the competitive tension between the former Boston Celtics teammates. The Philadelphia 76ers star recently downplayed their supposed feud while taking a playful shot at Tatum's public relations team.
Williams believes Brown's remarks send a message ahead of their first meeting as opponents following the blockbuster offseason trade.
“Every time I run up to you on a basketball court, it's up,” Williams said during FanDuel's Run It Back, as shared on X.
The former Sixth Man of the Year praised Brown for making his competitive intentions clear, despite both players publicly denying personal animosity.
“I love that he put Tatum on notice,” Williams added. “Everybody has great PR teams.”
Brown previously described his relationship with Tatum using an unusual food analogy, insisting there was no serious disagreement between them.
“There's no beef, but there might be a little lamb chops with some gravy,” Brown said.
The comments followed Tatum's insistence that their relationship should not become a public spectacle. The Celtics star also expressed appreciation on their year together and their 2024 NBA championship.
However, Brown had already questioned Tatum's reaction to his trade through a social media comment, adding another layer to their ongoing exchange.

The 76ers and Celtics are scheduled to meet November 10, giving Brown his first opportunity to face Tatum since leaving Boston.
For Williams, the anticpipation surrounding that matchup reflects the intensity that makes NBA rivalries compelling.
