The San Francisco 49ers were set to be without Dre Greenlaw for a game after he head-butted Ernest Jones IV against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. That quickly changed, as he appealed the suspension and it was upheld.
That has led people to wonder why Alaric Jackson's suspension wasn't upheld as well after his altercation with a Buffalo Bills player after their game on Monday Night Football.
“49ers LB Dre Greenlaw headbutts a helmetless player on the sideline during a game,” Matt Maiocco of NBCS wrote on X, formerly Twitter. He is disqualified, missing 36 minutes of that game PLUS is suspended for the next game. On appeal, his suspension was upheld. James Thrash was the hearing officer.
“Rams T Alaric Jackson lands a punch to the face of an opponent long after a game and gets his two- game suspension. It was reduced to one game. Derrick Brooks was the hearing officer.”
Greenlaw's suspension may have been taken away because he had already missed most of the game after being disqualified. The reason why Jackson is still being suspended might be related to his history. He was involved in a domestic violence situation during the offseason, and he never faced consequences from the league.
Article Continues BelowThe deal is that both players used some sort of unnecessary force against another player, but Greenlaw used his helmet, and Jackson used his fist. That could have some reason for the level of punishment, but it's hard to tell what the league went by when determining the suspensions.
For Greenlaw, he'll be available for the 49ers' next game against the Washington Commanders. Jackson will miss the Rams' next game against the Arizona Cardinals but will be available against the Las Vegas Raiders.
