A week in the NFL can feel like an eternity. Last Sunday night, Denver Broncos safety Talanoa Hufanga recorded a heart-stopping 66-yard pick-six versus the Los Angeles Rams and clinched the victory for his team with another interception on reigning MVP Matthew Stafford. This past Sunday evening, the All-Pro found himself unable to catch former San Francisco 49ers teammate George Kittle on a back-breaking 56-yard touchdown with 2:15 remaining on the clock.

If this dramatic reversal of fortunes was not sobering enough, Hufanga had to hear the star tight end crack jokes afterwards.

“Outrunning old teammates is always a great time,” Kittle said, per The San Francisco Standard's David Lombardi. “Especially when they’re 26.” Ouch.

Hufanga, who actually turned 27 in February, extolled the affable 6-foot-4 pass-catcher just days before this inter-conference matchup. In return, Kittle zips past him on a crucial play and then rubs some salt in the wound during the postgame proceedings. While the two men will probably have a laugh over this one, the Broncos defensive back is surely itching to dish out some revenge when the two next collide on the gridiron.

The 49ers claim bragging rights in Levi's Stadium, however, and are now a perfect 4-0 this season. Despite owning a crammed injured reserve, San Francisco is firmly establishing itself as one of the early Super Bowl favorites. Kittle's first month of action mirrors the squad's remarkable resilience.

Less than 270 days after suffering a torn Achilles, the two-time First-Team All-Pro reached a speed of 19.84 mph while outrunning Talanoa Hufanga, per Niners Nation's Kyle Posey. He now has 16 receptions for a team-high 244 yards and four touchdowns, doing more than his part to bolster a passing offense that undergoes frequent change. George Kittle is a pillar of consistency, but he is still chock full of surprises 10 years into his NFL career.

Hufanga learned that the hard way on Sunday. Kittle will look to bring the same lethal explosiveness when the 49ers visit the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks (3-1) in Week 5.
