Arsenal vs Wolves predictions and betting tips – Top versus bottom at Emirates

Arsenal’s Premier League title chances were dealt a blow last weekend, as they went down to a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa. It is vital that Mikel Arteta’s men return to winning ways on Saturday night.

Thankfully, they will be facing the team ranked rock-bottom in Wolverhampton Wanderers. But could there be a twist at the Emirates Stadium?

Arsenal vs Wolves predictions

At times in recent months, some observers have come close to declaring the Premier League title race over.

There is no doubt that Arsenal have been the division’s most impressive performers up to now, and with Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea all encountering various problems, it looked like the title was there for the Gunners’s taking.

It still might be, but it is clear now that any declarations of a one-horse race were premature. Ahead of this weekend, Arsenal’s lead at the summit of the standings stands at a mere two points. The fight for the title is very much on.

It is not as if Mikel Arteta’s men have dramatically fallen out of form. However, they have won only two of their last five league games and that has opened the door to others.

In isolation, none of their recent results have been disastrous. Arsenal drew 2-2 with upstarts Sunderland before the November international break and 1-1 with Chelsea at the end of last month. Last weekend, they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa, the Premier League’s form team.

Yet the cumulative effect means that Arsenal have dropped seven points from the last 15 available. In that period, Villa have been perfect and City have won four games out of five.

Both teams have duly closed the gap to top spot, with Villa three points behind Arsenal and City trailing the leaders by only two.

Arteta will have been pleased to see Arsenal respond positively to that defeat by Villa on their return to action in midweek. A 3-0 victory over Club Brugge maintained their 100 percent record in the Champions League and virtually guaranteed Arsenal a place in the round of 16.

Their attention now turns back to the Premier League, where Wolverhampton Wanderers will visit the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.

There is no such thing as a foregone conclusion in England’s top flight, but this is about as close to one as you can get.

Wolves are rock-bottom after a dismal start to the campaign in which they have drawn two and lost 13 of their first 15 outings. Rob Edwards, appointed as their new manager last month, has not been able to stop the rot yet.

Arteta should not take anything for granted, but this looks like a straightforward assignment for his team.

Arsenal vs Wolves betting tips

Arsenal are heavy favourites to defeat Wolves in this Premier League encounter.

Arsenal to dominate

Top against bottom in the Premier League means there is no value to be had in backing a simple Arsenal win. The bookies rate their chances as short as 1/10.

There are still attractive wagers to be found, though, including on Arsenal to win both halves against their struggling opponents.

Wolves are a mess right now. They are struggling at both ends of the field and their confidence is on the floor.

Arsenal are unbeaten in front of their own fans this term, while they have not dropped points against any team currently in the bottom half.

It is likely to be one-way traffic at the Emirates Stadium, with Wolves up against it from the get-go.

Wolves will struggle

With the games coming thick and fast over the festive period, Arteta may shuffle his pack here.

That is unlikely to be an issue. Arsenal possess enviable strength in depth, and even wholesale changes would leave them with an XI good enough to beat Wolves.

Arsenal are without some key defenders this weekend, with Riccardo Calafiori suspended and William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Cristhian Mosquera all injured.

The attacking unit is in good shape, though, so Arsenal will have plenty to offer in the final third. Wolves could ship a few goals in this one.

Saka on scoresheet

Bukayo Saka was given a rest against Club Brugge in midweek, with the England international featuring for only 19 minutes as a second-half substitute.

That indicates he will be in the starting XI for the visit of Wolves on Saturday evening.

Saka is not only one of the most technically gifted attackers in the Premier League; he is one of the smartest too.

The Arsenal academy product will know exactly how to find space against this fragile Wolves backline.

At odds better than evens, this one feels like a no-brainer.
