Arsenal set for hefty fine with FA to punish Mikel Arteta’s men after heated Chelsea draw

Arsenal are set to be fined by the FA following their draw with Chelsea.

The Gunners missed the chance to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

However, they remain five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City despite being held to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Arteta‘s side are expected to be punished by the FA, though, after a feisty London derby on Sunday.

Arsenal had six players booked by referee Anthony Taylor, including three inside the opening half an hour.

Martin Zubimendi’s yellow card after five minutes was followed by cautions for Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie before half-time.

Substitutes Myles Lewis-Skelly and Viktor Gyokeres then went into the book in the second half after coming on.

Gunner be punished

As a result, Arsenal will face a £25,000 fine in line with the FA’s rules on yellow cards.

The sanction is handed out to any club who picks up six or more cards in a single match.

Arsenal were previously hit with the same fine in February 2024 after a match against Liverpool.

Chelsea will not face the same penalty, though, having only received two cards against the Gunners.

Of those, one was a red card, with Moises Caicedo sent off in the first half.

The midfielder was originally booked for a foul on Mikel Merino before a VAR review saw Taylor upgrade his decision to a red.

Marc Cucurella was also cautioned for the home side earlier in the match.

Although Caicedo will now face a suspension for Chelsea, Arteta has no such issues despite his side’s poor discipline on Sunday.

None of his players have reached the five-card limit which triggers a one-match Premier League ban.

Instead, Calafiori is now one booking away from a suspension heading into Wednesday’s home clash with Brentford.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have collected the third-lowest number of bookings in the league so far this term.

Their tally of 18 has only been bettered than Newcastle and Manchester United, who have 13 and 16, respectively.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Bournemouth players have been cautioned the most with 35 in total.
