Alisson addresses concerning injury blow amid Liverpool star’s World Cup fitness fears

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has eased concerns of an injury setback, insisting he expects to be back before the end of the season.

The Brazilian suffered an undisclosed fitness issue following the Reds’ 4-0 win over Galatasaray on March 18, which has caused him to miss three games for club and country so far.

And Alisson appeared to have suffered a fresh blow when head coach Arne Slot revealed he would not return in time for a number of key fixtures.

The Dutchman confirmed his No.1 is set to miss Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City.

In an additional blow to the Reds, Alisson will also be absent for their crunch Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking on Friday, Slot said: “Yeah, he will not be part of the PSG game either, out for a bit longer.

“Towards the end of the season, we expect him to be fit.”

With Slot’s comments sparking fears that he had suffered yet another setback, Alisson has since allayed these concerns.

The 33-year-old took to social media to clarify the situation and revealed he is on track in his recovery from his injury.

He wrote in a post on X: “I didn’t suffer a new injury.

“I’m in the treatment phase, and the plan is to be in full playing condition by the end of April!”

The update will reassure both Liverpool and Brazil fans, with Alisson effectively confirming he will be back fit in time for this summer’s World Cup.

The Reds stopper first missed the Champions League trip to Galatasaray on March 10 due to a hamstring injury.

He then returned to play in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham five days later and his side’s 5-0 second leg win over Galatasaray.

However, Alisson then missed their next match – a 2-1 defeat to Brighton – with Giorgi Mamardashvili filling between the sticks.

The Georgian is now expected to start in goal this weekend and in the upcoming PSG double header later this month.

Alisson also looks set to miss the Premier League matches against Fulham and Everton, while it remains to be seen if he will be fit in time to face Crystal Palace on April 25.

This isn’t the first time the Brazil international has struggled for fitness in recent years.

He has been sidelined 11 times in the last three years, including a run of eight matches across October and November earlier this season due to a hamstring issue.

While Slot will be without Alisson for some crucial games, he has been handed a major boost with some other returning players.

The Reds boss confirmed in Friday’s press conference that Mohamed Salah and Jeremie Frimpong are fit to face City on Saturday following recent injury issues

Meanwhile, Slot also revealed Alexander Isak could be available for ‘a few minutes’ as he returns after almost four months out with a broken leg.
