AC Milan vs Lazio predictions and betting tips – Milan to edge attritional battle

AC Milan are flying high at the moment. They will host an improving Lazio on Saturday in the knowledge that three points will see them go top of Serie A for at least 24 hours.

However, with goals in short supply when the visitors play on the road, it could be an attritional night at the San Siro when the teams meet.

Milan vs Lazio predictions

Matchday 13 of Serie A could be pivotal for Max Allegri’s AC Milan.

Roma began the weekend top of the table on 27 points, with Milan second on 25 and Napoli third, also on 25, but behind the Rossoneri on goal difference.

A win for Milan will see them go top, and with at least one of Roma or Napoli guaranteed to drop points when they clash 24 hours later, the matchweek could end with Milan back at the summit of Serie A.

Along with Como on one defeat, Milan have lost the fewest games in Serie A this season. The returning Max Allegri has made Milan difficult to beat, and that view was never more put to the test than in last Sunday’s San Siro showdown with city neighbours Inter.

The Rossoneri were second best in the derby for much of the game. Inter dominated the match with 64 percent of the possession, registering 16 attempts at goal, with five on target. While with their limited amount of the ball, Milan managed eight efforts at goal, with just three on target.

One of the accurate efforts came from Christian Pulisic, who scored the only goal of the game after 54 minutes. The American’s fifth goal of the season gave the Red and Black half of the city bragging rights in the Milan Derby.

The Rossoneri have now not lost since they suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Cremonese on Matchday 1 of the season. Since that setback, the only real criticism that can be levelled at Allegri’s team is that with four draws from their opening 12 matches, they don’t convert enough stalemates into wins.

Looking to snap Milan’s 11 match unbeaten Serie A run is Lazio. Maurizio Sarri’s team sit just outside the European places with 18 points from 12 matches.

Lazio have won five, drawn three and lost four. And with just nine goals conceded, they have one of the meanest defences in Serie A.

Their home form is solid with four wins, one draw and one defeat. However, on the road things are not so good with the Eagles losing three, winning one and drawing two, while scoring just three goals in their six away trips.

However, with three wins and a draw in their last five matches, Lazio have started to pick up some momentum in recent weeks.

Their most recent result was a 2-0 win over Lecce in the Olympic Stadium in Rome last Sunday. This was their third successive home win with a clean sheet.Goals from Mattéo Guendouzi and Tijjani Noslin sealed the three points.

However, the Eagles crashed to a 2-0 defeat away at Inter in their most recent away day. It was their third successive match on the road without a goal or a win.

Milan vs Lazio betting tips

Lazio won the corresponding fixture 2-1 last season. The two teams played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture in Rome earlier in the campaign. However, this is a different Milan to the one the Eagles faced last term. Our Milan vs Lazio tips follow:

In-form Milan set for another statement win

AC Milan are riding high at the moment. A win could see them top Serie A at the end of the Matchday and they won’t want to pass up on this opportunity.

Lazio have been poor on the road with just one win from six. They began the weekend six points outside the top four, with a recent 2-0 defeat on this ground against Inter further highlighting the gap in quality between the Eagles and the teams competing in the battle for the Scudetto.

Furthermore, Milan have already come out on top in recent battles with title contenders Napoli, Roma and Inter.

On-song Pulisic worth backing to deliver

Christian Pulisic is having an impressive season in Milan. The former BVB and Chelsea wideman has scored five goals and provided two assists in his eight matches for the Rossoneri.

Pulisic has also been delivering the goods in the big matches. He provided a goal and an assist in Milan’s 2-1 win over Napoli on Matchday 5 and he also scored the winner against Inter in last weekend’s 1-0 win in the Derby.

In a tight match that could be decided by a moment of individual skill, Pulisic looks in the sort of form to deliver.

Defences set to be on top

Lazio’s six matches on the road under Maurizio Sarri have been far from inspirational. As we’ve already mentioned, the Eagles have scored just three goals on their travels, while conceding five.

Furthermore, all three of Lazio’s goals came in their 3-0 win at Genoa on Matchday 3. They’ve failed to score in their other five, picking up points with 0-0 draws away to Atalanta and Pisa, while losing at Como (2-0), Sassuolo (1-0) and Inter (2-0).

AC Milan aren’t renowned for high scoring wins either, they’ve scored just nine goals in six matches.

Over 2.5 goals have been covered in four of Milan’s home matches. However, it has only been covered in one of Lazio’s six road trips.

Furthermore, Milan’s two recent wins over Roma and Inter have both been 1-0.
